AGE
REQUIREMENT
You must be a minimum of 14 years old to volunteer at
MD Anderson Cancer Center. At the Children’s Art Project, we have volunteers
ranging in age from 15-90.
BENEFITS
One-time/Seasonal Volunteers:
Children’s Art Project volunteers know that their efforts make life
better for children with cancer. Without volunteers, the Children's Art
Project could not continue to increase the resources that support the needs
of pediatric cancer patients in the Children's Cancer Hospital at MD Anderson. The programs funded by the Children's
Art Project enrich their lives with normal childhood experiences and opportunities as
they battle cancer.
Permanent
Volunteers: Volunteers
who have attended a volunteer orientation and have a permanent job assignment at
the Children’s Art Project benefit in the following ways:

Free self-parking is provided
in the FHB Garage for volunteers, Mon.-Fri., 7:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Discount (10%) on
Metro Bus Passes (available at the hospital cashier window).

Free annual flu shots, and tuberculosis screening.
-
Patient Family Library
and Medical Research Library access.
-
Prescription discounts from
the Central Pharmacy or Outpatient Pharmacy located in the Main Building.

Insurance Coverage for any
reasonable and/or necessary expenses for medical care resulting from an
injury in the course and scope of volunteer activities, and which is not
covered by the volunteer’s own insurance, will be reimbursed up to the
limit of the MD Anderson policy. Additionally, the Department of
Volunteer Services provides insurance for Personal Injury Liability
covering occurrences arising out of the performance of volunteer
duties.

publication about MD Anderson volunteers sent quarterly.

Cafeteria discounts - show
your volunteer ID badge at time of purchase.

Houston Astros tickets on an

Annual volunteer

Volunteers work year round at the Children’s Art Project, Monday through Friday, between the hours
of 9:00 am-12:00 pm and 1:00 pm-4:00 pm.
During certain months of the year we do require additional help from volunteers
for special projects. Please review the calendar below.

DRESS CODE
Permanent Volunteers: Volunteers who have attended a volunteer orientation and have a permanent
job assignment are required to wear their volunteer ID badge. CAP volunteers are
not required to wear
uniforms. If you have contact with
patients please do not wear scented cosmetics, perfumes, aftershave or
colognes. These items may cause discomfort to patients undergoing
chemotherapy.
One time/Seasonal Volunteers: Please come
dressed in office casual attire - dresses or skirts, walking shorts, jeans or
slacks, with a blouse or shirt, and comfortable shoes. Please keep in mind
that you
will be working in an office setting. If you plan to visit the hospital or
have any contact with patients please do not wear scented cosmetics,
perfumes, aftershave or colognes. These items may cause discomfort to patients
undergoing chemotherapy.

HOW TO BECOME A
VOLUNTEER
Becoming a Children’s Art Project volunteer is easy.
Just follow these simple steps:
Step 1.
Review our volunteer web page.
Step 2. Choose
the activity you would most enjoy.
Step 3.
Decide whether you would like to volunteer once or on an ongoing basis, on
your own or as part of a group, daytime or evening hours.
One time/Seasonal Volunteers:
Individual one-time volunteers work year-round at the Children's Art
Project and are not required to attend an orientation. For
more information on becoming a permanent volunteer, please call 713-745-2575 and
ask to speak with the volunteer coordinator.
Permanent Volunteers:
Permanent volunteers are required to attend
an orientation. A personal interview is conducted before the orientation. For

SHOPPING
Children's Art Project
merchandise can be purchased in a number of ways. We sell our products at retail
outlets, via the web, in an on-site boutique, at an off-site boutique
(Uptown Park), in our hospital gift shops at off-site shows and at private
parties.
